Craigslist Proxies and the Geography Problem

Craigslist is different from the social platforms in one way that changes the whole calculation: it's organised by city. Every post belongs to a geography, and where your connection appears to be is part of what the site reads when you post there. On Instagram your IP is a fingerprint. Here it's closer to an address on an envelope.

Ghosting, and why the IP often isn't the cause

A ghosted post is one that looks live in your account and never appears in the listings. It's silent by design, which is why people cycle through fixes without knowing which one worked. Before you buy anything, the common causes are worth ruling out, because most of them are free to fix.

• Duplicate or near-duplicate text. The same ad reposted, or the same body across cities with a word changed, is the most reliable way to get ghosted.
• Wrong category or wrong city. A post that doesn't belong where it was filed gets removed by the site or flagged by readers.
• Volume. Several posts in a short window from one account is a pattern, whatever address they came from.
• Links and contact details in categories that don't allow them.
• Then the network. A datacenter address is easy to identify, and a residential pool address may have been used for exactly this by somebody else last week.

When the address genuinely is the problem

Two situations, and they're both real. The first is posting into a city you aren't in, which is normal for anyone selling regionally or running listings for clients in several markets. A connection whose location contradicts the city you're posting to is a mismatch the site can see.

The second is separation. If you post for more than one business or client, those accounts sharing a connection is what associates them, and one problem then travels to the rest.
