5G vs 4G Mobile Proxies: What Reddit Says

Search 5G vs 4G mobile proxies on Reddit and you'll find two camps. One says the 5G label is a sticker sellers add to charge more, the other says it's the only thing that keeps up. What Reddit gets right

The most common take on those threads is that 5G doesn't improve your trust score. That's correct, and it's worth being blunt about it. A site can't see whether the tower behind your IP is 4G or 5G. It sees a carrier IP out of a pool that thousands of ordinary phones share, and that's the whole reason mobile proxies work in the first place. Blocking that range means blocking real customers, so most sites won't.

The second thing they get right is that bandwidth usually isn't the bottleneck. If you're managing accounts, checking how ads render in a region, or pulling public data, you're sending small requests and then waiting for someone else's server to answer. A faster radio doesn't make that server reply any sooner.

What Reddit gets wrong

The headline speed figures that get quoted, 500 Mbps and up, come from a device sitting in ideal conditions with nothing else competing for the cell. A proxy device lives indoors, shares that cell with everyone nearby, and holds connections open for hours at a time. What you get in practice is a fraction of the brochure number, and that's true on 4G and 5G both. Comparing the two on their advertised peaks tells you nothing about how either behaves at 3pm on a weekday.

The other thing those threads skip is that download speed is the least interesting number here. Upload headroom and how the connection behaves when it's held open are what decide whether a long session survives, and almost nobody benchmarks either one.

Where 5G genuinely helps

  • Upload-heavy work. If you're pushing media out rather than pulling pages in, upload headroom is the one number that changes your day, and it's where 5G has a real lead.
  • Heavy parallel load on a single device. Every device has a ceiling on how much it'll carry at once. 5G raises it. If you're running a couple of threads, you'll never reach the 4G ceiling to begin with.
  • Congested areas. There's more room per cell on 5G, so a busy city block degrades less at peak hours.

Where it doesn't

If your work is account management, ad verification, price checking, or testing against a site that fights automation, you're spending your time waiting on the target and not on the radio. 4G feels identical for that. Coverage is the other half of it: 4G reaches almost everywhere, while 5G availability still depends on the city and the carrier. A 4G device on a good tower beats a 5G device on a weak one, every time.

The thing the threads leave out

Here's what we'd argue about instead. Whether an IP is shared or dedicated changes your results far more than whether it's 4G or 5G, and it's the question almost nobody asks before buying. Plenty of providers put dozens of customers behind one device and one IP. If any of them abuse it, everyone behind that IP inherits the reputation damage, and no amount of bandwidth fixes a burnt IP.

A dedicated proxy is yours alone, so its reputation is a product of your own activity and nothing else. That's the upgrade worth paying for. Network generation is a spec, one user per IP is an outcome.

How to decide in one question

Skip the speed comparison and ask what you're waiting on. If you're waiting on someone else's server, which covers most proxy work, put your money into dedicated IPs and more of them rather than into a faster radio. If you're waiting on your own uplink, meaning you're uploading a lot or pushing heavy parallel load through one device, that's when 5G earns the difference.

One thing worth saying plainly, because it's the claim that sells the most upgrades: don't buy 5G expecting fewer bans. There isn't a difference. Anyone pitching it on that basis is selling you something the network doesn't do.
