What the three IP types mean
Every IP belongs to a network, and sites decide how much to trust you partly by which kind of network that is. Three buckets matter.
- Mobile: the IP belongs to a cellular carrier like T-Mobile, Verizon or AT&T. Carriers put thousands of phones behind each public IP (that's CGNAT), so a site can't block one without blocking real customers. That's why mobile IPs see the fewest captchas.
- Residential: a home connection from a cable, fiber or DSL provider. Trusted, but one IP maps to one household, so heavy use from it stands out.
- Datacenter: a server at a hosting company like AWS, Hetzner or DigitalOcean. Most VPNs and cheap proxies live here, and plenty of sites flag the whole range on sight.
How to check a proxy's IP type
Connect your browser through the proxy, then open this page. The IP at the top is the one sites see, and the verdict tells you which bucket it's in. If you'd rather not touch your browser settings, paste the proxy into the proxy checker and it'll run the same lookup on the proxy's exit IP.
Where the data comes from, and where it's wrong
Network details come from ip-api.com, which classifies IPs by the address ranges carriers and hosting companies announce. It's right most of the time, not always: a carrier's home-internet product can show as mobile, and a small host that isn't on anyone's list can pass as residential. Treat the verdict as a strong hint, not a guarantee.
We don't log the IPs you check. Lookups are cached in memory for a few hours so repeat checks are instant, and that's all.
When you'd want a mobile IP
If a site keeps showing you captchas, asking for phone verification, or banning accounts you've barely used, your IP type is the first thing to check. Datacenter IPs get that treatment by default. A dedicated mobile IP is the other end of the scale: it's what a real phone on a real carrier looks like. We sell those, so weigh the recommendation accordingly, but you can test any provider's proxy here before you pay.

What's the difference between my IP and my ISP?
Your IP is the address sites see. Your ISP is the company that owns it: your cable or fiber provider at home, your carrier on mobile data, or a hosting company if you're on a VPN or proxy.
Why does my IP show the wrong city?
IP location comes from where the network registered the address block, not from GPS. Mobile carriers route whole regions through a few gateways, so a phone in one city can show up hundreds of miles away. The country is almost always right. The city is a guess.
Can a site tell I'm using a proxy?
It can tell what kind of network your IP belongs to, which is what this page shows, and a datacenter IP is the biggest giveaway. Sites also check things an IP checker can't see, like browser fingerprint and time zone mismatches, so a clean IP is necessary but it isn't the whole picture.
Is the IP checker free?
